NBA 籃球英語第二集

1. Richard Hamilton, one of the so-called "Jordanaires", scored 11 points in a 13-0 game-tying run that swung the momentum as the Wizards won Saturday night's home opener 90-76 victory over the undermanned Philadelphia 76ers.
週六晚間，Jordan搭配小組之一的 Richard Hamilton在一波13比0的攻勢中獨得11分，不但追平了比數而且逆轉了全隊氣勢；魔法師隊以 90 比 76 力克費城 76人隊獲得主場首勝。

Jordanaires：「Jordinaires」1950 及1960 年間著名的「咻比嘟哇」合音團體，曾經為「貓王」Elvis Presley及其他天王歌星合音。Jordan在 NBA 當然是天王球星，他的隊友也自然像是在陪襯他。「Jordanaires」與「Jordinaires」只有一個字母之差，無怪乎隊友被戲稱為「Jordanaires」了。

run：【名詞】連續(的得分)；「小高潮」。其他用法：a long run (of a movie)（某電影）連續放映；a run of wet weather連綿不斷的雨天；a good run at play比賽連勝。

swung the momentum：逆轉了全隊氣勢。swung是 swing 的過去式及過去分詞，是「使改變方向、使迴轉」的意思。Momentum在物理、力學上是「動量」的意思，引伸的意思為「氣勢」。

2. The Nets made up for 35.5 percent shooting from the field by outscoring Charlotte 31-9 on the fast break and 27-17 on second-chance points.
在第二節比賽中，紐澤西網隊投籃命中率只有 35.5%，但是利用快攻取得 31 比 9 的優勢，同時在「補籃」上也有 27 比 17 的優勢。

outscoring：(甲隊)得分超過(乙隊)。類似的字還有out-rebound：(甲隊)籃板球多於(乙隊)；out-run：(甲隊)體力勝過(乙隊)。

fast break：快攻。

second-chance points：進攻的一方首次投籃沒進，搶到進攻籃板球得到二度投籃的機會「補籃」得分。

3. "Defense was the key tonight," said Grant Hill. "Defense is our trademark. We wanted to come in and shut them down defensively. When we play D, we win."
Grant Hill說：「今晚球賽勝利的關鍵在於防守成功。防守是本隊的招牌註冊商標。我們本來就是想在比賽中發揮防守神攻不讓對方得分。如果我們全力防守，就會勝利。」

key：關鍵。

D：防守defense的第一個字母大寫。

Grant以中距離跳投連續得六分...McGrady跳投得分...Chris Mihm於距籃框15呎處跳投得分。

mid-range jumpers：中距離跳投，另一種說法是 perimeter shot-perimeter是「周圍、周邊」的意思。

drilled a jumper：drilled是「鑽(洞)」的意思， 把球投入籃框就像是球「鑽入」籃框一樣。

drained a 15-foot jumper：drained本是「液體從管道流出去」的意思。球投入籃後從籃網底落下，像就像是球從沒有底的籃子漏出去一樣。

5. But Darrell Armstrong sandwiched two 3-pointers around McGrady's dunk.
但是在 Darrell Armstrong 投入兩個三分球之間，McGrady有一次灌籃。

sandwiched：三明治是兩片麵包「夾」漢堡、火腿等...，將...「夾」入(兩個三分球)之間，兩個「夾」字都可以用 sandwich 這個字。路邊有背著「夾」在身體的胸前與背後遊街做「活動廣告牌」的人，叫做 sandwich man。

6. The bird swooped down on the Cavs as they took the court, buzzed fans in the lower bowl and left some droppings on the floor in the first quarter.
在比賽的第一節中克里夫蘭騎士隊進攻時，一隻鳥從空中迅速飛撲下來，掠過坐在體育館下層的觀眾頭頂，並在球場地板上留下一堆鳥糞。

buzzed：【動詞】除了當「嗡嗡作響」的意思之外，也有低飛而過的意思。在航空表演中，飛機常以低飛(引擎會發出「嗡嗡」聲)作信號或表示歡迎。

lower bowl：許多體育館，中間低而四周有座位，看起來像個碗似的。lower bowl就是指接近「碗底」的數排座位。

droppings：動物的糞便。狗的糞便叫做 dog droppings，dog shit是粗話，一般不宜使用。通常會用複數形 droppings 而不用單數形 dropping。

7. Pacers use late 17-1 run to dethrone Kings.
印地安納溜馬隊後來打出一波 17 比 1 的攻勢擊敗沙加緬度國王隊。

dethrone： throne是「王位」，de-有「去除」之意。dethrone就是「推翻王位」。打敗「國王隊」不就是「推翻國王」嗎？

8. We don't want to be the doormats of everybody in the league.
我們不想成為NBA聯盟中(其他)各隊的「墊背」。

doormats：洋人一般在進入室內時是不脫鞋的；為了怕把室內弄得太髒，主人會在門前擺一塊「擦鞋墊」doormat以便清除鞋底泥垢，引申的意思就是「被踩在腳底」的一支隊伍。

原文中在 everybody 之後沒有加上 else一字，是錯誤的。"everybody" in the league 包括自己本身這一隊，可是自己不能把自己踩在腳底下，所以應該剔除表示本身這一隊。改成 "everybody else" 就不包括自己本身這一隊了。

9. While the legs aren't quite what they were during the glory years, make no mistake: Jordan still has the fire.
雖然已不復當年勇，但是大家要明白：Jordan仍然還是有「火力」的。

"While the legs aren't quite what they were during the glory years." 直譯是：雖然他的兩條腿已不似當年他叱吒風雲時代的兩條腿，套句中國的俗語來說，就是「好漢不復當年勇」。

make no mistake：確確實實；一點兒也不錯；強調語氣的用法。

10. Jordan mustered some vintage moves and a dunk out of his 38-year-old body.
Jordan以38歲之軀拿出他當年的身手和灌籃的本事。

vintage：古老的，陳舊的。

moves：(各種籃球上如運球過人、投籃、搶籃板球、「蓋火鍋」、抄截...的)動作。
