NBA 籃球英語第四集

1. "I don't think we ran out of gas..."
我不認為(我隊的輸球)是因為體力不繼的關係。

ran out of gas：gas代表一種能量，在球場上指的是體力。因此，ran out of gas 就是「耗盡體力」。請注意，此處動詞用 run，是「用」的意思；run out of money就是「沒錢用了、錢花光了」。

2. Minnesota dished out 39 assists and turned the ball over just nine times.
明尼蘇達(灰狼隊)在比賽中有39次助攻，僅有9次失誤。

dished out：傳球給隊友使其輕鬆得分。用「端盤子出去」來比喻「傳球出去」。「助攻」的動詞表達法。

assist：【名詞】助攻，也可以當做動詞用。

turned the ball over：將控球權「轉(turn)」「過去（over）」(到對方手中)，也就是「失誤」。名詞是 turnover，但在英文中既可用動詞表達（turn the ball over）也可用名詞表達（have a turnover）。

3. After holding off the short-handed Miami Heat 86-82 Thursday night for just the second 4-0 start in franchise history, coach George Karl lashed out at his players for their lackadaisical attitude and sloppy play.
週四晚的比賽中，(公鹿隊)以86比82力克短缺人手的邁阿密(熱浪隊)，是隊史上第二度以連續四勝展開新球季。比賽結束後教練 George Karl把他的球員痛罵一頓，指責他們比賽時未盡全力、馬馬虎虎的態度。

4. My momentum had me all totally off-balance. I pump-faked. I knew I had him. I saw him jumping. I was trying my best just to get into him, try to go into his body. But I had already lost my footing.
我的衝勁使我完全失去平衡。我做了個投籃的假動作，我知道對手被我的假動作騙過去了。

momentum：動量；慣性；（一股往前的）衝勁。

pump-faked：投籃的假動作：舉起球，狀似投籃，又放下。這種舉起又放下求的動作，和幫浦(pump)的往復動作類似。「拉桿投籃」的動作是先舉起球，放下，再做一次投籃動作，英文是double pump。

I had him：此處的 had是「欺騙」的意思，是及物動詞，可以有被動式。Madonna著名的歌曲Like A Virgin中就有一句 "I've been had." (我上過當)。不過在 "I had him in the argument." (我在辯論中擊敗了他)和 "I had him there." (我以那一點擊了他)中 had 意指(在競賽、辯論中)擊敗...(對手)或佔上風的意思，不可有進行式也沒有被動式。

5. Elden Campbell was called for goaltending when be blocked an off-balance shot by Duncan.
Duncan身形不穩投出一球，被 Elden Campbell蓋了一記火鍋，但是被裁判吹「防守方封籃違例」。

goaltending：「防守方封籃違例」。依NBA籃球規則，投籃後，球在籃框正上方(虛擬的圓柱體內)無論進攻方或防守方均不得碰觸，否則為違例。如為「進攻方封籃違例」則得分不算，「防守方封籃違例」時，不論球進與否，均算得分。

6. The Nets' second-stringers played a big part in a 17-4 fourth-quarter spurt that decided the game.
網隊的二線球員在第四節比賽中有突出的表現，打出一波17比4的攻勢，奠定了勝利。

second-stringers：二線球員。表示「擔任副手的角色」可用一句 play the second fiddle 的成語。string指弦樂器的「弦」，second fiddle只管弦樂團的第二小提琴手的職位。

7. Kidd iced the game with a 3-point field goal and a jumper on which he lost his shoe.
Kidd投進一記三分球，又投進一記兩分球，確保比賽的勝利，並且在投兩分球時脫落了一隻鞋。

iced the game：iced做為動詞用，意為「確使」...(成功)。

8. Bradley and James Posey of the Nuggets each received personal fouls and technicals after getting tangled up under the Dallas basket while jostling for rebound positioning in the second quarter.
在第二節比賽中，Bradley與(丹佛)金塊隊的 James Posey在達拉斯(小牛隊)籃下為了搶籃板球卡位而「糾纏」、「推擠」在一起，各自被吹一次個人犯規及一次技術犯規。

technicals：技術犯規，technical是technical foul的簡稱。

tangled up：糾纏。

jostling：推擠。

positioning：(取得、佔到)某有利位置，position當做動詞來用；因為是jostling for中介系詞for的受詞，因而必須使用動名詞的形式。

9. G Nick Van Exel is leading the NBA in scoring. But the Nuggets are not exactly celebrating. No one else on the team has been finding the mark, so Van Exel has become offensive option Nos. 1, 2, and 3.
後衛 Nick Van Exel目前在NBA的個人得分領先群倫，實際上對(丹佛)金塊隊不是的慶祝的好現象。全隊一直找不出其他任何射手，於是進攻時，一號射手是他，二號射手也是他，三號射手還是他。

G：後衛(guard)。

SG：得分後衛(shooting guard)。

PG：控球後衛(point guard)，也稱為「組織後衛」。

has been finding the mark：【完成進行時態】，表示該動作「起始於過去」時間，「延續到現在」，並且暗示還要「繼續下去」。finding the mark是「找到目標(籃框)」，亦即「得分」。

offensive option Nos. 1, 2, and 3：NBA的進攻戰術是首先傳球給得分能力最強的隊員出手投籃，這個隊員是進攻時的第一選擇(出手投籃的人)。由於金塊隊缺乏射手，所以說第一選擇、第二選擇、第三選擇都是Nick Van Exel。

not exactly：並非真正地...；實際上不是...。例：The two were not exactly friends.那兩個人並非真正的朋友。not exactly常在回答問題時用來表示「不完全正確」、「不見得」的意思。例如：You scored 600 in TOEFL; you must have studied for a long time.『你托福考600分，一定K了好久吧？』Not exactly. I studied for only one week. 『才不呢。我只K了一星期。』

10. Hawks forward Chris Crawford tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in a second-quarter collision with the Spurs' Malik Rose.
在比賽第二節時亞特蘭大老鷹隊的 Chris Crawford 與聖安東尼(馬刺隊)的Malik Rose相撞，以致左膝前十字韌帶拉傷。

anterior cruciate ligament：前十字韌帶，縮寫成ACL。cruci-表「十字」之意。anterior 一字的 ante-表「前」之意。順便提一下與 anterior 相同字尾的單字：posterior：「後面的」；interior；「裡面的」；exterior：「外面的」；ulterior：另有用意的，別有用心的。
